It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our wonderful mother. She died peacefully at home on February 7, 2013. She leaves to morn her husband, Domenico, her children Pasquale (Sandra), Maria (Remo), Mirella (John), Marco (Francesco), her nine grandchildren, her four brothers and four sisters-in-law and many and many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
Teresa was born on April 25th, 1930 in San Giovanni in Fiore, Italy; the younger daughter of Vincenzo Lopez and Caterina Laratta. She was a capable, caring and strong woman which she demonstrated at the young age of 14 when her mother died in her arms leaving her and her sister to care for their father and infant brothers. As a newly married couple in 1951 Teresa and Domenico moved to a distant town in northern Italy. Within 10 years the family grew with the the birth of 3 children. In 1961 with her husband and young family she immigrated to Canada to join up with her father, sister and brothers. In Canada she worked for many years as a seamstress while managing a lively household. Then in 1969 she was blessed with another beautiful son to round out her family. She was an excellent cook and talented in the fine art of knitting and embroidery. And to our amazement she was a champion "boce" player. Her bright smile could light up a room and she was full of practical advice and solutions to any problems. Teresa was always available to help with babysitting, cooking, mending, gardening but she never asked for help and she never complained that she was tired or that life was getting too difficult. She has provided us with an excellent example of what it truly means to be a dedicated wife and mother. We are fortunate to have known her and we will miss her dearly. The family will receive condolences at Magnus Poirier Funeral Complex 10300 Pie IX Blvd. on Thursday, February 14, 2013 from 2 to 5 and from 7 to 10 p.m. and on Friday morning as of 9 a.m. A funeral service will be held on Friday, February 15, 2013 at 11 a.m. at Our Lady of Pompei Church thence, burial at Notre Dame des Neiges Cemetery.
