It is with heavy hearts that the family announces the passing of their lovely mother, Maria Libera Paniconi, on Monday, October 23, 2023 at the age of 92, wife of the late Antonio Serafini.
In 1949, at a young age of 18, Maria bravely left behind her family in Agnone, Italy, to join her husband in Montreal, where they lived together for 66 years. Maria dedicated her life to caring for and supporting her family of six children, assisting her husband in running his business, and later in life looking after her husband’s failing health. She loved to make homemade pasta, always had some stored, and on a dime openly welcomed family and friends to join the dinner table. She was a strong woman who overcame many life challenges with composure and took great pride in always looking her best.
She will be missed by her loving children Helen, Nicola, Lisa (Amir), Mario (Melania), Diana (Benito), Franco; her cherished grandchildren Amy (Marco), Karim, Anthony, Stefan, Eric (Jordyn), Andrea (Alex), Julia; her beloved great-grandchildren, Gino, Matteo, and Adam; as well as her siblings Enrico (Carmelina), Anna Maria (brother Angelo predeceased), Lucietta, and Anna.
Visitation will be held at Magnus Poirier Funeral Complex, 6825 Sherbrooke Street East, on Sunday October 29th, 2023 from 5:00pm-9pm, and on Monday October 30th, 2023 from 11am-12:30pm, followed by a 1pm funeral mass at the chapel, and then the burial at Le Repos St-François D'Assise Cemetery, Mausoleum Sainte Antoine.
In lieu of flowers, those who wish to donate in memory of Maria Libera Paniconi can do so to the Glaucoma Research Society of Canada
